Hello schools and teachers,
Light up Autism Foundation, are very excited to start offering schools the opportunity to complete our classroom support training days. They are designed to assist teachers and aides with supporting the diverse needs of all learners in the classroom. We have started doing training days to help schools to learn strategies to help support ASD students in the classroom. Although these skills can be applied to use for all students.
More and more children with Autism Spectrum Disorder are entering and completing their school education in public, catholic and private schools. In 2019 89% of children with a disability were reported to attend mainstream schools, and only 11% went to a specialist school. Unfortunately, most university primary and secondary education degrees and teacher’s aide courses include limited focus on both understanding ASD and practical strategies on educating and managing disruptive and / or aggressive behaviours within a busy classroom of 20-26 other students. The Light Up Autism Foundation currently offers small group training presentations aimed at education assistants and teachers who want to develop a toolbox of practical strategies that reduce challenging behaviours and enhance learning. Based on the principals of positive behaviour support, participants are supported to analyse some of the common challenges that occur both in classrooms and in the playground, and to develop strategies that improve the participation, attention, learning and social development of neurodiverse students in mainstream educational settings.

We would love to be able to support you and keep making the future brighter for all children.
